Digital Movies for Everyone Project

Digital Movies for Everyone was launched in 2002 as a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. By taking advantage of digital technology and promoting the screening of digital content throughout Japan, the project aims to create new models for content distribution and related businesses, revitalize the movie industry and regional economies, enhance the marketability of movies, and develop new screening facilities around the nation.

[Project Outline]
There are two types of members, screening members and content holder members. The website, http://www.movie.dcaj.or.jp, serves as a meeting place for both members and helps them achieve their common goal of showing digital movies on large screens with high picture and sound quality.
[Registered Movies]
Roughly 1,000 titles, ranging from Japanese and Western masterpieces by major studios to movies by independent production companies and individuals are currently registered.
[Rental Equipment]
82 projectors (including five DLP and four LCD models), roughly 50 players (including Bluray Disc and HD DVD players), 220/180-inch screens, sound equipment, decoders, and other equipment are available for rent.

Digital Cinema Promotion

In December 2007, a memorandum of understanding was signed by representatives from Japan, China, and South Korea at the Chinese Cinematic Science and Technology Institute. This agreement paves the way for joint cooperation and support in the exchange of information and experts in the field of cinematic technology. Signatories were Seiichi Tanaka, Executive Director of DCAJ, Li Shuping, Chinese Institutefs Vice President, and Jeong Byung-Gak, President of the Korean Film Council.
We additionally aim to promote CoSME, the world’s first digital cinema clip for use in evaluating digital image quality, and to propose the implementation of a unified evaluation standard for the production and the screening digital cinema.
