Digital Movies for Everyone Project
This project was commissioned by METI and launched in 2003 with the aim of disseminating digital cinema and conducting regional screenings. Run as our own project since 2006, a new visual culture is being created through digital cinemas in regions without movie theaters with the goal of developing human resources for regional screenings and revitalizing regional development. The project has contributed to the regional development of areas which does not have movie theaters in the neighborhood as a system which allows low-cost, convenient and easy screening on large movie screens by using high definition digital projectors and digital screening equipment..
[Project Outline]
A 'Digital Movies for Everyone' Council has been established with a membership consisting of screening members and content holders (creators and distributors). There is a screening system in place whereby content can be searched and selected from the website "Digital Movies for Everyone" at http://www.movie.dcaj.or.jp, screening sessions registered on the website, high definition digital projectors and screening equipment hired at a low cost and screening sessions held utilizing places other than theaters.
[Registered Movies]
Around 1,400 titles are registered, covering a wide range from Japanese and western masterpieces to major and independent works, animation, independently produced titles, regionally produced independent titles. With a full search function, works can be easily located using the movie title or the name of the director.
[Digital Screening Equipment]
The following equipment is available: digital projectors - high definition DLP projectors (5 models, 12 units); LCD projectors - 5 models, 66 units; digital players - blue ray players (3 models, 42 units); Rec-POT and others - 49 units. There are also 220/180 inch screens, sound equipment and decoders, etc.
